Samuel L. Jackson Confirms Appearances in Thor, Captain America; Will Get a Sidekick for The Avengers

Last April, Samuel L. Jackson revealed that his nine-movie deal with Marvel did not include the upcoming Thor, but would include Captain America. During an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jackson went back on his own word and reveals that he will, in fact, appear in Thor.

In the next month or so, I have to do one day on Thor, and I gotta do another day on Captain America, and in April we start Avengers — the big deal with everybody. Thor and Captain America are pretty much done, but I haven’t done my part in them yet. I’m just connective tissue for them to join The Avengers.

Jackson wasn't done revealing secrets, this time about The Avengers.

I gotta screen test like five actresses on Friday. They have this new character that’s my sidekick or something, that’s with me all the time.

And who are these "five actresses"? According to THR, Jackson will be screen testing with Morena Baccarin (ABC's V), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield), Cobie Smulders (CBS' How I Met Your Mother) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). Math hounds will note that the list only accounts for four of Jackson's "five", so perhaps there is another actress out there that has yet to be revealed.

Baccarin had previously been rumored to be up for a role in The Avengers (speculated to be The Wasp), to which Baccarin responded: "I will never turn down an opportunity to work with [director Joss Whedon]." Baccarin was in Whedon's Firefly TV series and the subsequent movie Serenity, and could be considered the frontrunner.

Whoever does get the role will also be awarded a nine-movie deal with Marvel, and will show up in several more Marvel movies.

The Avengers opens May 4,2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.
